YMCA Welcome Week: Amara's Adventures Inspire Young Minds!

What a week it's been at the Kirk Family YMCA in Roanoke, Virginia! 🎉

This year, the YMCA team wanted to do something extra special for the young members, something that would spark their imagination and get them excited about learning.

Enter Amara's Adventures, an amazing book series that follows a clever 11-year-old girl as she travels through time, exploring history and science along the way. When they announced featuring Amara's Adventures for their Welcome Week activities, the response was incredible! Kids were buzzing with excitement, parents were thrilled, and our staff couldn't wait to get started.

Storytime Magic: Amara Comes to Life

Storytime with Amara was the beating heart of Welcome Week. The staff brought Amara's Adventures to life, the kids sat spellbound, hanging on every word. 

The room was so quiet you could almost hear the pages turning – until sudden bursts of laughter or excited gasps broke the silence, proving just how caught up in the story everyone was!

Coloring Outside the Lines of History

After storytime, we broke out the Amara's Adventures coloring pages. But this wasn't just any coloring session – it was like watching history come alive through crayons and markers!

I was impressed by how creative the kids got with their coloring. One group decided to color Amara's time machine in rainbow colors. Another kid colored amara's headwrap in different color patterns. It was awesome to see them have fun with history!

The team set up different stations around the room, each with a hands-on activity related to one of Amara's adventures.
